GENRE ANALYSIS THE FILM GUNDALA

Gundala (2019) is the latest Indonesian action film that was commercially successful, won national and international awards, even ranked second in viewership 2019. This study aims to identify genre characteristics of Gundala. paper utilized Nick Lacey's analysis, which analyzes films based on repertoire elements (narratives, characters, settings, iconography, styles). The research shows adopted characteristics, especially narrative, character, style. However, setting iconography have been modified fit local cultural context. Hence, distinctiveness can expand similar studies genres.
